Rules:

Twelve (12) clues will be gradually given out in the 2009scape CC, beginning when the game starts. These clues are intentionally vague and may require some unique observations made while playing the game or being familiar with various events, items, movies, music or other elements. If in doubt, a search engine may yield some insight on some occasions.

To win you must first find the person hosting and then trade them.

If you find the host do NOT reveal their location to anyone via any means until the game has ended.

In some circumstances the host may invite those who have already found them to offer their own clues in the CC. This will only happen after all twelve (12) original clues have been given. Again, please do NOT directly reveal the host's location to anyone via any means until the game has ended.

In a game with multiple prizes, a winner may not then use an alternate account to collect a second prize.

Additional Notes: The host will not be hiding at any location currently locked behind a quest requirement on this server. Some locations may require passage in close proximity to potentially aggressive NPCs and some may require or benefit from payments of fares or fees to NPCs. Please plan your equipment and supplies accordingly.

Additional rules may be given out prior to a contest.

Congratz to this week's winners!!!!

1st prize: H A X (9 minutes in)
2nd prize: Sledgehog (9 minutes in)
3rd prize: Valkyrie (13 minutes in)
4th prize: Shibby (23 minutes in)

[The 4th prize was made possible by Valkyrie only wanting a portion of the 3rd prize]

This weeks clues (and explanations) were:

1) The best song of my neighbors may be moody. Kinda blue.

A reference to the 1967 song "Nights in White Satin" by the band "The Moody Blues" as I was making reference to the White Knights of Falador.

2) clay, copper and iron are important to my north

A reference to the ores required for Doric's Quest just to the north west of where i was hiding.

3) Ultimately a picture is worth more than 12,000 below me.

A reference to the minimum of 12,725 Smithing Experience (at 1x) from The Knight's Sword quest and the picture in the cupboard found in the Falador Castle.

4) Sometimes it starts with surviving.

A reference to the White Knight Sir Vyvin, whose missing sword is the subject of The Knight's Sword quest.

5) Two flags fly in a gale near me.

I was hiding in the northeastern most tower of the White Knight's Castle in Falador, where two flags wave in a furious breeze.

6) The ceramics near here may also be found elsewhere later.

A reference to Sir Amik Varze defacto ruler of Falador who is in Falador Castle when starting the Black Knight's Fortress quest and later in Lumbridge for the Recipe for Disaster quest which is not (as of yet) wholly functioning here.

7) Highwaymen to the Northeast, Highwaymen to the South.

There is a highwayman to the north east of Falador and Highwaymen near both southern exits from Falador.

8) Where does one start, to put a cabbage in a pot?

A reference to the objective of the Black Knight's Fortress quest which starts with Sir Amik Varze (see above).

9) Certification is important near this place.

A reference to Sir Tiffy Cashien who sits on a bench in Falador park and who sells the Initiate and Proselyte armours.

10) Think I'll pass on those bills!

A reference to the swans who live in the moat around Falador Castle.

11) Behind a wall, behind a wall, behind a wall...

Where i was hiding was behind the Falador Wall, Behind the Castle Wall, and behind the tower wall.

12) Some quests use individual resources effectively.

First letter of each word makes "S Q U I R E" the npc with whom you start the Knight's Sword Quest .

=======
Hope everyone had fun and thanks for playing :)

Next Weeks's game will be a fun Valentine's Day themed event! Take care!

Re: Hide and Seek Master Thread

Post by zencro »

This week's Hide and Seek is a Valentine's Day themed event. It will be held twice!

17:00 UTC (5 pm Sunday) / 12:00 US Eastern (Noon Sunday)
-and-
01:00 UTC (1 am Monday) / 20:00 US Eastern (8 pm Sunday)

Anyone may participate in both contests but you can only win once!

**Rules:**
Twelve (12) clues will be gradually given out in the 2009scape CC, beginning when the game starts.
These clues are intentionally vague and may require some unique observations made while playing the
game or being familiar with various events, items, movies, music or other elements.
If in doubt, a search engine may yield some insight on some occasions.

To win you must first find the person hosting and then trade them.

If you find the host do NOT reveal their location to anyone via any means until the game has ended.

In some circumstances the host may invite those who have already found them to offer their own clues
in the CC. This will only happen after all twelve (12) original clues have been given. Again, please
do NOT directly reveal the host's location to anyone via any means until the game has ended.

In a game with multiple prizes, a winner may not then use an alternate account to collect a second prize.

Note: Starting with this week's 2009scape CC Hide and Seek (Heart and Seek), no winner will be allowed
to win a second time for a period of four (4) contests or two (2) weeks from this one. This rule will
persist until all materials that have been donated by staff for this contest are fully depleted.

Additional Notes: The host will not be hiding at any location currently locked behind a quest requirement
on this server. Some locations may require passage in close proximity to potentially aggressive NPCs and
some may require or benefit from payments of fares or fees to NPCs.
Please plan your equipment and supplies accordingly.

Should a winner elect to not take possession of the full prize they are due the remainder may be used to
either: supply a 4th prize -or- be carried over to the next contest to be used as prize resources at the host's
discretion.

Additional rules may be given out prior to a contest.

Ironman accounts who find the host as well as prior contest winners within the game restriction on a
second win who participate and would have placed were it not for those restrictions will be
acknowledged in the winners announcement for each contest.

Re: Hide and Seek Master Thread

Post by zencro »

Thank you to all who participated in our 2009Scape CC "Heart" and Seek Valentine's Hide and Seek event! I hope everyone had a lot of fun!
A special thanks to Mod Summer Storm for showing up with the first round of festivities (and for bringing a HECK of a lot of penguins!!!!) =D
Most of the prizes for this week's event were provided by 2009Scape Staff with some additions from yours truly :)

In the first event we had three winners:

First Prize: H AX
-----------------
1m gp
100 nats
100 laws
100 bloods
100 soul
Choice of: Guthan's warspear/Black Mask/Robin Hood
Chose: Robin Hood

Second Prize: Blackdrak15
-------------------------
750k gp
75 nats
75 laws
75 bloods
75 soul
Dragon Battleaxe

Third Prize: Davey
------------------
250k gp
25 nats
25 laws
25 bloods
25 soul
Rune Crossbow

Special mention: ETP who arrived within a few seconds after third place was taken.

Hiding Location: Top of Varrock Church

The Clues:

1) I stand above my dad in the desert kingdom.
A reference to Father Lawrence relating to "Lawrence of Arabia."

2) The path to me takes many turns.
A reference to the multiple spiral staircases it takes to climb up to the top where i was hiding.

3) "...you will have to go to The War Museum to hear about me."
Part of a quote from the movie "Lawrence of Arabia" and a hint that the Varrock Museum is nearby.

4) 7 stars and 2 shields rest directly below me.
There are 7 stars and 2 shields displayed on the walls of the rooms leading to this spot.

5) Yew will likely pass by the way to me
There is a Yew tree just outside the Church door.

6) The happy pig to my east insists cabbage is good for me.
A reference to the Jolly Boar tavern just to the east of this location and an NPC there that indicates "cabbage is good for you."

7) There is one who sleeps below at one point.
During the quest "Romeo and Juliet" Father Lawrence is seen preaching while a congregation member is asleep in a pew below.

8) Fur Elsie is not Beethoven's best known work.
Perhaps Ludwig van Beethoven's best known work is "Fur Elise", while the almost similarly NPC "Elsie" is in a rocking chair below and can be asked to tell a story.

- This is as far as we got to before all three prizes were claimed! The rest of the clues were not required. -

===========PART 2

For this event Ceikry made an appearance to help with the festivities (Even made a global News announcement)!
Thank you Ceikry! =D

Hiding Location: I was hiding in Evil Dave's Basement in Edgeville.

1) One new path to your oldest combat instructor passes close by..

On tutorial island the combat instructor reveals himself to be Vannaka...later he may be your slayer master and located in the tunnels under Edgeville. The passage from Edgeville to Vannaka passes close by Evil Dave's basement. In fact, you can see it to the west shortly after you descend the ladder south of Edgeville.

2) Is grandfather working above?

In the room above a grandfather clock can be seen.

3) at least 15 posts stand

There are 15 posts in Evil Dave's basement.

4) Why do I feel wrapped around someone's finger?

In the music video for The Police's 1983 hit "Wrapped around your finger" Sting is dancing around a room with lit candles all over the floor....much like in Evil Dave's basement.

5) "In the afterlife, you could be headed for some serious strife..."

First line of The Squirrel Nut Zipper's song "Hell," a reference to the Hellrats present in Evil Dave's basement.

6) Eleven skulls of light make the room surprisingly bright

There are eleven skulls with candles in them in Evil Dave's basement.

7) Is there a ship sinking nearby?

A reference to rats deserting a sinking ship and Evil Dave's basement is FULL of rats...

8) How to be evil and influence people

The title displayed when you search any of Evil Dave's bookshelves...

9) Barbarians to my south

A reference to Barbarian Village to the south of this location.

-That's as far as we got before we had 3 winners-

First Prize: Valpuri, who chose the Black Mask and received the same other prizes as in the earlier contest.
Second Prize: TheChimken who received the same second prize as in the earlier contest.
Third Prize: Kennynes who received the same third prize as in the earlier contest.

Thanks to everyone for playing and I hope you had as much fun as I did :)

I will not be hosting a Hide and Seek Event today (Sunday 19 February 2023). Instead a poll will soon be posted to help determine the best times of day and days of week for future such events! :D

Expect a new game to be announced shortly after the poll results have been determined.

Easter Hide and Seek Winners/Recap/Clues/Explanations etc...
(Note: Having some issues adding graphics here, will attempt to correct later!)
Congratulations to the winners of the event!

winners.jpg
winners.jpg (46.14 KiB) Viewed 4564 times

This Event included a puzzle box which was located on the World Transport Map
at the western entrance to the Draynor Village sewers. This puzzle box (when solved)
told you to bring a tin ore and a rope.

There was added code behind the puzzle box to find people who attempted to cheat the
puzzle and instead just decrypt the code. This would lead them to bring far more
extensive items and even make an announcement.

In the fake answer they were told to:

"Wear a Blue Gnome hat, Adamant plate body, Red dhide legs, and carry an Anti-dragon
shield while wielding an Adamant scimitar. Before speaking to me say the phrase
-The tulips have bloomed in Varrock harbour!- in the public chat (not the CC!)
Ignore all other clues about wearing items!"

The real answer (tin ore and a rope) was in a code section designed to make it -look- like
it was a cheating admonition...until it was decrypted ;)

The word search was in a forums post by user: Jalarast
(See next post for solved word search)
wordsearch-SOLVED.png
wordsearch-SOLVED.png (120.75 KiB) Viewed 4561 times
This asked players to find the answers to the following within the word search
and then locate where some answers intersected to decode a message:

The widow west of Port Phasmatys: ALICE (Animal Magnetism quest)
Gertrude's herb: DOOGLE (Gertrudes' Cat quest)
Puppy types available from the pet shop in Taverley: DALMATION (Taverley area)
Loves redberry pie: THURGO (Knights' Sword quest & Smithing cape)
A type of Leprechaun: TOOL Leprechaun (Farming skill/Vinesweeper)
Sleeps in a box south of Barbarian village: COUNTDRAYNOR (Vampire Slayer quest)
Sells Woad: WYSON (Goblin Diplomacy quest)
The place Farmer Blinken went: MARKET (Vinesweeper)
A type of rock at Shilo: GEM (Shilo Village area)
A goblin General: WARTFACE (Goblin Diplomacy quest)
The fairy ring code for abyssal space: ALR (Fairy Ring codes)
Someone near the chemist's in Rimmington: HOPS (Rimmington near the chemist's)
The output of herlore work: POTION (Herblore skill)
The witch in Taverley: NORATHAGG (Witch's House quest)

When completed the following message appeared:

DLR ON MAP

Going to DLR (Poisonous Wastes) on the WTM gave a link to the following riddle:

What to get:
Above you the grass (COLOR: GREEN, ITEM: HAT)
below that the rain (COLOR: BLUE, ITEM: TOP)
still deeper the emerald (COLOR: GREEN, ITEM: LEGS)
Your feet yet remain

Three levels above them (4th LEVEL)
past shades and undead (Shades and Ankou)
a cradle before them (Cradle of Life)
the prism you tread (Fancy boots which are rainbow (prism) colored)

Where to go to get the first part of the above:
famed seven hilled city
but not in the game: (ROME)
the end of the noodles
are the end of my name: (SPAGH-ETTI)

Answer: "Rometti" who runs the gnome clothing store (Rometti's Fine Fashions) in The Grand Tree

The location clues (given in CC):

> You must cross a bridge to get to me.
See bridge marked as location 1 on map. Note this is up the first ladder and between the trees.

> Yew can only get here from the east.
All teleports or entrances to this location in the Tree Gnome Stronghold are east of this location.

> You can only reach me from the north.
From the first ladder you must travel south to reach the second ladder.

> There's something magical nearby!
Magic Tree marked as location 2 on map, just southwest of the nearby Tree patch.

> A walking testimony to sqills is not far away.
The NPC Prissy Scilla works to protect the tree patch at location 3 on the map.
A Scilla is a type of "Squill" which is a family of bulb bearing perennial herbaceous flowering plants.
See: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Scilla

> If you're trying to find a way into the house you're a bit south.
When examining Hazelmere's statue (see later clue) you are informed it is "A way into the house".

> If you knock on an oak will it let you in?
A reference to the statue of Oaknock west of the southern entrance to the Tree Gnome Stronghold (location 4 on map)

> You might pass something sounding like a hospital getting here.
A reference to the statue of Healthorg east of the southern entrance to the Tree Gnome Stronghold (location 5 on map)

> Someone who lived near spiders is not far to the south.
A reference to the statue of Hazelmere found directly south of this location. (location 6 on map)
During The Grand Tree quest Hazelmere is located on an island east of Yanille guarded by spiders.

> you'll go up 2 ladders to get to me.
Referring to the 2 ladders one must take to reach the location.

> A famed silver tree lived once nearby.
Argento is the name of a famous silver spirit tree whose stump yet remains at the spot
marked as 7 on the map. This entity plays a part in The Eyes of Glouphrie quest.
