2009scape as a Flatpak

Post by Red Bracket »

Flatpaks are the up-and-coming way for Linux users on any distribution to have 1-click access to any of their apps. Having first-class Flatpak support would be like being one of the top apps in the App Store in 2010.
----

Final update: We're live! See the 2009scape Flatpak here: https://flathub.org/apps/details/org._2 ... e.Launcher

-----

Note: 2009scape is not on Flathub (at this time). I'm waiting for an download URL that won't expire before submitting that

Anyways, for anyone who wants to install it straight from a flathub.json:

https://github.com/dginovker/flathub/tree/_2009scape

How to use:

$ flatpak-builder --user --install --force-clean build org._2009scape.Launcher.json
$ flatpak run org._2009scape.Launcher

---

Update: The Flatpak has been submitted to Flathub and is awaiting review. You can test it by running the following command:

Code: Select all

flatpak install --user https://dl.flathub.org/build-repo/118825/org._2009scape.Launcher.flatpakref

If you're going to do this, you should include the recommended plugins by default

That's not really how that works, unless the launcher downloaded them. Plugins are by all means external files.

Ah, I see! You made assumptions about the development timeline of plugins, including assumptions about how I was planning to improve the system in the future. A builtin distribution mechanism is already the plan, but it'll be a while before I've found a solution I'm happy with. You could have asked instead of making these assumptions you know :D

On Linux (and more recently, mobile operating systems like Android and iOS) you get apps from a central location (like the Play Store) instead of downloading .exes off random websites. You can still download .exe-like-things off random websites, but having one location you go to all the time is easier. I'm adding 2009scape to one of these central locations (like I've added OpenRSC in the past)

As a practical example, someone on the Steam Deck could search "Runescape" in the Steam Deck's software center, find 2009scape, and start playing in one click
