How to actually use saradomin? avast blocking it?

I turned avast off and on hitting play the whole saradomin window vanishes.

Avast (which is basically malware) may have deleted some files Saradomin needs to install. Once Avast is disabled/uninstalled, try redownloading Saradomin and trying again.
Make sure the Saradomin launcher version you install is the "Self Contained" one, as seen here:
Another possible issue is Java isn't installed. I'm not sure if Saradomin detects that, but that may cause this problem too.

This should not be set to Local Server - (set it to Live). Was Local Server the default
?

I did admittedly change it wanting to do local/solo play, my fault there.

so it's on "stable" I hit play and for some reason the file keeps deleting from wherever I save it? I've tried multiple locations. also, nothing loads.

All good, I had just assumed you were trying to connect to live server. Did you redownload Saradomin?
Also, as a step to debug it, try launching with the Legacy Client or for Live Server, that might help narrow down the problem

okay, so 2009/vanilla client works. saradomin not so much
so I ran the 2009 vanilla client - flawlessly.
closed it out and opened the saradomin launcher to the option window, hit play. and it closes out completely with nothing happening.
java is 11 as you've seen, it's on stable server for the profile. experimental.

How did you launch the vanilla client? (Asking so can potentially fix it for others)

Saradomin Client works, it is your specific setup causing the issue. Did you redownload after uninstalling and disabling Avast? You shouldn't have anything but Windows Defender these days btw, everything else is not only unnecessary but likely to cause issues like this.
