Shooting Stars Guide for OSRS (EZscape)

Post by Franky »

Been playing a bit of AFKscape lately, so here’s a quick guide on Shooting Stars.

Disclaimer: This is for the main game, not 2009scape.

Shooting Stars are kind of a mini-game in OSRS. Every 90 minutes or so, a star crashes somewhere in every world. Ever since September/October 2023, these are a great source of AFK mining experience.

How it works
How it works is pretty simple. Stars drop in tiers 6-9, requiring 60-90 mining level respectively. Every 7 minutes after it drops, the star will drop down 1 tier until it is completely depleted, or a new star drops on that world. Even if you're below 60 mining, you can find a star that's already been degraded down a few tiers.

Finding Stars
There are two ways to find stars: either with a telescope in your Player Owned House, or from a group/website. Telescope in POH is not recommended anymore unless you enjoy finding your own stars, because now all the stars deplete at the same rate.

Best way to find stars are to join friends chats in game:
* Group Stars
* Star Miners

Or to use a website to track their locations - I use this shooting star tracker.

Equipment/Inventory
Recommended equipment is based on having the most amount of teleports in your inventory to get to new stars faster. If you have access to the Prospector Kit (+2.5% bonus mining XP) it’s recommended to bring it. There’s a lot of different locations (76 landing sites to be exact), so its best to pick sites that align with the teleports you have available.

All the star locations can be found on the OSRS wiki: https://oldschool.runescape.wiki/w/Shooting_Stars

XP Rates
Experience is low, with the most XP/HR capping out around 32K per hour. But the big upside of this method is that it’s almost completely AFK - all you have to do is click once every 7 minutes when the star tier degrades. Then about once an hour you have to go find a new star, so overall not a bad method.
